Microsurgeries are those surgical operations that are performed using operating microscopes also known as the surgical microscopes. As the definition suggests, it is impossible to perform a microsurgery without these microscopes as the surgeries performed normally demand high precision and care. Surgeons need to have a clear vision of the smaller body parts they are operating on such as teeth, eyes and even blood vessels. Apart from high precision, these microscopes are also supposed to help them in being productive and find the surgery convenient and less stressful.

Surgical microscopes are most used in medical fields that deal with smaller body parts such as teeth, eyes, blood vessels etc. These microscopes have a wide range of applications in endodontic treatment (dentistry), anastomosis procedure where blood vessels are joined in vascular surgery, ENT surgery, ophthalmic surgery, plastic surgery, OB/GYN and neurosurgery. Accordingly, operating microscopes are classified into different categories, each suited for a particular medical field mentioned above. Here is a list of the most popular of them.

1. ENT Microscopes

ENT is a branch of medicine that deals with the treatment of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), a very popular branch of medicine that is often the most consulted one. Any surgery related to ENT comes under micro surgeries and ENT microscopes are a must to perform these operations. For illumination, these microscopes are equipped with LED lights that give out a cold but powerful field of illumination that is close to natural day light. In addition they have anti-reflective and anti-scratch properties and the optical system produces sharp contrast and revolution, with fine focusing control to work with a wide range of working distances. Designed to be highly ergonomic in nature, ENT surgical microscopes are available in both wall mount and floor stand variants.

2. Ophthalmic Microscopes

Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with disorders and diseases concerning the eye. Naturally, ophthalmologists are expected to perform under high pressure and stress to ensure that the treatment is accurate. Ophthalmic surgical microscopes are designed to help them perform crucial microsurgeries on the eye with advanced illumination and optical systems. The phenomenon of Red Reflex is made possible by these operating microscopes that help in visualizing an illuminated retina to detect ruptured vessels, arteries or damaged optic disc. In addition, a digital SLR camera is provided to achieve real-time streaming of the surgery on a flat panel monitor that is mounted on the arm of the setup.

3. Colposcopy

Colposcopy, a diagnostic medical procedure performed using the magnified and illuminated study of the vulva, vagina and cervix requires sharp details from the examination. Surgical microscopes known as Colposcopes are used to perform these diagnostic assessments and are equipped with advanced illumination, optical and image-capturing systems to achieve precision in examination. An ergonomic control cluster, optical systems with fine focus and a joystick for better handling are equipped in these surgical microscopes, which in turn help in revealing the most subtle lesions to atypical vascular patterns.
